Georgian president suggests Trump to reset Washington-Tbilisi ties
Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has expressed hopes for a renewed relationship between Georgia and the United States after his recent visit to New York for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
During his visit, Kavelashvili met with US President Donald Trump, who assured him that the matter of establishing a fresh start in bilateral relations would be revisited, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
Reflecting on their meeting, Kavelashvili said, “I told the US President that it’s time to begin our relations anew.”
“The public is probably most interested in the dinner hosted by the President of the United States, where we met. I told him that it was time to rebuild our relationship, and he responded that he would look into the matter. He assured me he would certainly revisit this issue and follow up. Let’s wait and see what his response will be,” he added.
In addition to the meeting with President Trump, Kavelashvili held discussions with other members of the US administration, including a meeting with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
Earlier, Kavelashvili and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze sent open letters to President Trump proposing a reset of relations between the two countries.
