Notably, Hungary has been an observer state in the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) since 2018, marking a strategic pivot by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán toward stronger ties with Turkic-speaking nations. Budapest hosts the OTS Representation Office in Europe, underlining its long-term commitment to closer cooperation with Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
Hungary has also pursued energy diversification in recent years, particularly in response to the European energy crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine and subsequent sanctions against Russia. In this context, Azerbaijan has emerged as a key partner, supplying natural gas through the Southern Gas Corridor.
