IGB pipeline transports over 3 million MWh of gas since early 2023
Some 3.08 million megawatt-hours of natural gas have been transported through the Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) Pipeline since early 2023.
“A total of 7.9 million megawatt-hours of gas have been transported through the gas pipeline since it was put into commercial operation on October 1, 2022. A total of 15 users were registered in IGB by late February,” the ICGB operator company told Report.
IGB envisages the transportation of gas extracted as part of the Shah Deniz Stage 2 in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Bulgaria.
Bulgargaz EAD state company signed a contract with the Shah Deniz consortium for the supply of one billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas from the Shah Deniz Stage 2.
Azerbaijani natural gas will be able to meet 25-30 per cent of Bulgaria's needs.
Some 150 kilometres of the pipeline with a total length of 182 kilometres run through Bulgaria. The annual capacity of the pipeline is 3-5 bcm.
