International Telecommunication Union supports Azerbaijan’s satellite, transport digitalization plans—official
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has expressed openness to collaborating with Azerbaijan in the fields of satellite technologies and the digitalization of transport corridors, said Mario Maniewicz, Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau (BR).
Speaking on the sidelines of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) in Baku, Maniewicz outlined the Bureau’s key responsibilities, which include managing radio frequency spectrum, satellite orbits, mobile communications, and all major aspects of wireless communications, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“We provide assistance to all countries, including Azerbaijan, in the implementation of their telecommunications projects and are fully prepared to support any initiative that Azerbaijan wishes to pursue,” Maniewicz stated.
Responding to a question regarding the ITU’s potential role in digitalizing the Middle Corridor, he emphasized that the organization is already engaged with modern transport systems, including high-speed routes and corridors.
Maniewicz also highlighted the role of emerging mobile standards, noting that while current 5G technologies provide numerous critical capabilities, forthcoming 6G standards are expected to comprehensively address remaining technological gaps, further enhancing connectivity and digital infrastructure.
