Iran’s Supreme Leader: Middle East conflicts to end when West leaves region

02 October 2024 18:52

The conflicts in the Middle East will only cease once the United States and European nations withdraw from the region, said Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to Khamenei, all the countries in the region can restore order in their territories, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.

“If they [the US and Europe] leave the region, without a doubt, conflicts, wars, and clashes will completely stop. All the countries in the region can restore order in their territories and the region, and live together in peace, health, and prosperity,” Khamenei noted.

Khamenei’s remarks reflect longstanding tensions between Iran and Western powers, who have maintained a military and political presence in the Middle East for decades.

Notably, on October 1, Iran launched a significant missile barrage towards Israel, marking one of the largest such assaults in recent times. This attack surpasses the intensity of the previous April incident, where 110 ballistic and 30 cruise missiles were fired.

According to footage aired on Israeli television, several missiles were seen flying over Tel Aviv around 19:45 local time. While Israeli aerial defence systems intercepted most of the missiles, some reportedly hit military bases, restaurants, and schools, according to Israeli security officials.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran claimed that 90% of the missiles hit their targets, including the use of hypersonic missiles for the first time. IRGC sources asserted that three Israeli military bases were among the primary targets.
