Belarus boosts diplomacy in Kazakhstan with Almaty consulate reopening
Belarus has reopened its General Consulate in Almaty, elevating its diplomatic presence in Kazakhstan, Belarusian Consul General Denis Meleshkin announced.
The consulate aims to boost trade, investment, and joint projects between the two countries.
“In 2025, trade turnover exceeded $1.5 billion. The goal is $2 billion, and the potential is certainly there,” Meleshkin said. He noted Kazakh businesses are interested in both traditional goods, such as food and machinery, and new investment projects, particularly in assembly production.
The consulate, officially operational de jure since December 31, 2025, will initially operate with two staff members. The official reopening ceremony is scheduled for April 15. Meleshkin highlighted Kazakhstan’s swift recognition of the consulate as a sign of strong bilateral cooperation and friendship.
Belarusian associations are active across Kazakhstan, with plans to expand, including in Shymkent. The consulate will also provide standard services while promoting economic and trade relations.
