Iranian envoy assesses Azerbaijan-Georgia border for freight efficiency

Mojtaba Demirchilou, the Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan, conducted a critical assessment visit to the Red Bridge border customs checkpoint on the Azerbaijani-Georgian frontier, focusing specifically on the transit facilitation of Iranian heavy freight vehicles.

According to a statement by the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan, the ambassador was comprehensively briefed by senior representatives of the Azerbaijani customs service. Discussions centered on the technical and administrative intricacies of border management, including standard customs procedures, mechanisms for vehicle and cargo inspection, and planned efficiency-enhancing measures aimed at streamlining border operations, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

A key component of the ambassador’s itinerary was a direct engagement with Iranian truck drivers operating at the checkpoint. This meeting allowed Ambassador Demirchilou to gather firsthand insights into the logistical challenges and administrative bottlenecks encountered by drivers while transiting Azerbaijani territory.

The Red Bridge crossing maintains its strategic significance as a foundational transit node for Iran. It is a vital link facilitating the movement of commercial goods between the Persian Gulf, the Black Sea region, and wider European markets. The operational efficiency of this route is considered paramount to enhancing Iran’s trade potential and securing improved access to European distribution channels.

This corridor forms an essential component of the regional connectivity plan, linking Persian Gulf nations and India with Europe via the interconnected territories of Iran, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.
