Irish parliamentary delegation visits Shusha, Khankendi PHOTO
On April 23, a delegation from the Irish Parliament, led by the head of the interparliamentary friendship group Tony McCormack, has visited Shusha and Khankendi cities during an official trip to Azerbaijan.
The delegation first travelled to Shusha, where they were briefed at the City Square, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Press Service of the Milli Majlis (Parliament).
Guests were informed that monuments to prominent Azerbaijani cultural figures Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli, located there, were damaged by Armenian fire during the period of occupation.
The delegation also visited the Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque, examined the Shusha fortress walls, and went up to Jidir Duzu.
Later, the Irish parliamentarians travelled to Khankendi, where they viewed Victory Square and the Karabakh University, and were briefed on large-scale construction and restoration works taking place in the city.
It was noted that life is gradually returning to normal in the territories liberated from occupation, with ongoing reconstruction projects enabling the return of former internally displaced persons to their native lands.
