Official: Azerbaijan has been supplying Georgia with gas, oil all along
Georgia and Azerbaijan continue to deepen their energy cooperation as both countries work to strengthen regional energy security and advance major cross-border infrastructure projects, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Inga Pkhaladze, said.
Speaking during a panel discussion at the Baku Energy Forum on June 1, Pkhaladze underscored the importance of Azerbaijan as a long-standing supplier of energy resources to Georgia, Caliber.Az reports.
“As you know, we are working very closely with Azerbaijan, and they have been supplying us with gas and oil all along, because we do not have these resources. But at the same time, we are discussing the construction of and participation in major strategic projects in our neighbouring countries, and through the development of renewable energy, we are helping our neighbouring countries by enabling them to receive electricity from us whenever they need it,” said Pkhaladze.
According to Phaladze, the country is currently expanding its power grid, constructing new substations, and improving electricity-sharing arrangements with neighbouring states. These efforts are aimed at boosting energy security and reinforcing Georgia’s position as a key regional transit hub.
“By working together on these major, exciting and highly economically viable projects, we will resolve current issues relating to electricity supply and lay the foundations for broader cooperation between neighbours,” she emphasised.
