Oman becomes full member of Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Belarus granted observer status
Oman has been officially elected as a full member of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) during the 15th plenary session held in Baku.
The decision was made by the assembly's delegates after deliberations at the session, marking a significant step in Oman's participation in regional parliamentary diplomacy, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The plenary session, which was attended by 280 delegates from 35 countries, also saw the granting of observer status to Belarus within the APA. This move reflects the organization's ongoing efforts to broaden its outreach and foster greater cooperation between legislative bodies across Asia.
The Baku Declaration, a key document of the plenary session, is expected to be adopted following discussions. A committee meeting to prepare the draft declaration was held earlier on February 19, ahead of its expected formal adoption.
The APA, which serves as an essential platform for parliamentary diplomacy, is playing an instrumental role in enhancing dialogue and cooperation between the member nations' legislative bodies. As global issues continue to evolve, the APA remains a vital space for addressing key political, economic, and social challenges facing the region.
This plenary session in Baku is expected to further solidify the APA’s influence and cooperation on pressing global matters.
