Pakistan moves to join North-South transport corridor
Pakistan is prepared to join the international North-South transport corridor, as announced by Muhammad Khalid Jamali, Pakistan's ambassador to Russia.
Jamali made this declaration during an international IT forum in Khanty-Mansiysk, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
"In principle, Pakistan has agreed to join the North-South International Transport Corridor and has initiated the necessary procedures. We are progressing in this direction," stated the Pakistani envoy.
Jamali also highlighted Pakistan's ambition to revitalize the Silk Road, noting recent shipments of Pakistani citrus fruits to Dagestan via Iran and Azerbaijan. This new trade route, he emphasized, opens avenues to enhance trade volumes, which have already reached $1 billion.
The North-South International Transport Corridor serves as a pivotal route for transporting goods between India, Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Its primary advantages include significantly reducing transportation distances, thereby enabling shippers to save both time and costs.
