Russian diplomat describes scale of recent cyber attack as unprecedented
Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has said that an attack on the ministry’s website on October 23 marked an unprecedented event in terms of scale.
"We regularly face attacks on our website, but today's cyber assault stands out for its unprecedented magnitude," the diplomat noted during a briefing, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
She explained that hackers used a comprehensive approach to target the ministry's website, including the use of DDoS attacks.
Zakharova suggested that the cyberattack might be linked to the commencement of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.
On the morning of October 23, the Russian Foreign Ministry's website was hacked. Users were advised to refrain from accessing the website via mobile or other devices temporarily.
Cybersecurity analysts at StormWall indicated that Russia has become one of the top targets for hackers. In the third quarter of 2024, the country experienced more DDoS attacks than Singapore and Hong Kong.
Earlier, Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) had also reported cyberattacks on its website.
