Shah Deniz consortium signs major contract for SDC platform jacket

09 December 2025 14:53

The Shah Deniz consortium has signed another major construction contract to ensure that the Shah Deniz Compression (SDC) project, approved earlier this year, progresses in line with the planned schedule.

The 156-million-dollar contract covers the construction of the support block and piles for the compression platform, Caliber.Az reports, citing bp.

The work will be carried out by BOS Shelf LLC and BOS Shelf International FZCO (jointly operating as BOS Shelf).

The scope of work under the contract includes engineering for fabrication yards and assembly, pipe-rolling operations, the fabrication and assembly of the 9,900-ton support block and the 5,800-ton pipe piles and side piles, commissioning tests of installation systems, as well as the loading and securing of the completed support block onto a barge for offshore transportation.

All fabrication and installation work will be carried out at the construction and installation area of the Heydar Aliyev Baku Deepwater Jackets Factory (BDJF) yard, owned by BOS Shelf, and full use will be made of local infrastructure and resources.

It is expected that approximately 97% of the workforce involved in the execution of the contract will consist of Azerbaijani citizens, and the total execution will amount to roughly 2 million work-hours. Work under the contract is planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025 and be completed in the first quarter of 2028.

Ilgar Mammadov, bp’s project general manager, said that this is another important milestone for the SDC project and for bp as the operator.

“This reflects the professionalism and determination of our teams, the strength of our long-term local partnerships, and our commitment to delivering the project to the highest standards of safety, quality and efficiency,” he noted.

The 2.9-billion-dollar SDC project represents the next phase in developing the giant Shah Deniz gas field and is intended to tap low-pressure gas reserves to ensure maximum resource recovery.

It is projected to deliver roughly 50 billion cubic metres of additional gas and about 25 million barrels of extra condensate for production and export from the Shah Deniz field.
