Shusha to host “Khary Bulbul” int’l folklore festival
The “Khary Bulbul” international folklore festival will kick off in Azerbaijan’s cultural capital city of Shusha on Thursday.
This year’s event is organized in line with the presidential order that announced 2022 as the “Year of Shusha” in Azerbaijan and the “Events plan for the city of Shusha” adopted by the country’s Cabinet of Ministers in February 2022, according to Report.
The first edition of the “Khary Bulbul” international folklore festival took place in 1989 to mark the 100th birthday of Azerbaijan’s prominent singer Khan Shuhsinski, who was born in Shusha. After Shusha’s occupation by the Armenian forces in 1992, the event was cancelled. The return of the “Khary Bulbul” to its homeland took place from May 12-13 in 2021 after Shusha was liberated from occupation by the Azerbaijani army.
This year’s festival, which is the fifth edition of the event, will be attended by musicians and dance groups from ten countries who will perform in traditional folklore styles of their countries, as well the local folklore groups from across Azerbaijan.
