Turkic States establish new Energy Coordination Body and Green Tech Centre
The Azerbaijani Energy Ministry has announced that energy ministers from the Organisation of Turkic States agreed to establish an Energy Coordination Committee and a Regional Centre for Technologies and Green Initiatives.
The agreement was reached following the fourth meeting held in Bishkek on September 16. The ministers signed a Joint Communiqué at the meeting, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry.
The communiqué supports the creation of the Energy Coordination Committee of the Organisation of Turkic States, the Regional Centre for Technologies and Green Initiatives, and green energy corridors. The document also expresses the Turkic states' readiness to actively participate in Energy Day, which will be held in Baku on November 15 as part of COP29.
In his speech at the meeting, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov noted that in 2023, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and member states of the Organisation of Turkic States and observer countries exceeded $9 billion. Investments from these countries into Azerbaijan amounted to $18.2 billion, while Azerbaijani investments in these countries totaled $20.3 billion. He also mentioned the plans to sign an "Intergovernmental Agreement on Strategic Partnership for the Development and Transfer of Green Energy among Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan".
The discussions on renewable energy cooperation with Kyrgyzstan are also on the agenda. Shahbazov announced that an Investment Forum on the Energy Transition for Central Asian countries will be held as part of COP29, offering "another opportunity for solidarity in support of green energy goals."
Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan are member states of the Organisation of Turkic States, while Hungary, Turkmenistan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus hold observer status in the organisation.
