Turkish FM: Ankara not to support sanctions of individual countries against Russia
Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said that the Turkish authorities are not going to support restrictive measures against Russia until they are introduced at the UN level.
According to him, Ankara prioritizes its own interests, despite its membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, TASS reports.
"Now, let's get ready for sanctions against Russia." How will the merchants of Alanya sell their goods to the Russian Federation? Yes, if sanctions are introduced by the UN, we will be obliged to execute them. But if we start to observe the sanctions introduced by this or that [state], whether they are fair or not, and abandon our principles, we will stop taking into account the interests of our country," Çavuşoğlu noted.
As indicated by the head of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Turkish side demonstrates a principled position on the conflict in Ukraine. He also added that Ankara is undertaking a policy of balance and is not going to abandon it for the sake of "showing favor to anyone".
