Turkish FM calls for broader reforms in international organizations
The United Nations Security Council, World Health Organization (WHO), World Trade Organization (WTO), and international financial institutions need sweeping reforms, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at the Group of Twenty (G20) Foreign Ministers meeting in New Delhi on March 2, Anadolu reports.
The Turkish foreign minister is convinced that reform of the international system will help bridge the gaps in global development.
He recalled Ankara's repeated calls for reform of the UN Security Council.
"Efforts to reform the UN should be aimed at the common benefits and not at our expectations of individual countries," Cavusoglu said.
Regarding Ankara's foreign policy, the minister noted that Türkiye's stance is to "strengthen multipolarity and reform international structures: "We are in an era of rapid transformation. In the current situation, it is important to critically analyze the international system and the role of international organizations.”
The Turkish foreign minister is sure that effective multipolarity and a rules-based system are two fundamental concepts.
“The body is as healthy as the heart is. The heart of our international system is the UN,” he said, adding that any multilateral effort without UN reform would be insufficient.
