Turkish Intelligence Operation kills PKK commander in Syria

Türkiye’s special forces have conducted a successful operation on the elimination of terrorists outside of its borders.

As the Turkish Hurriyet reports, a commander of the PKK/YPG terrorist organization, Nejdet Daglarer, has been neutralized by the National Intelligence Agency (MIT) in the course of the operation in Syria.

The commander, who was operating under the alias Geli Serhat, was being targeted for his activities against the Turkish and Syrian Armed Forces.

The People's Defense Units (YPG) is a Syrian militia group, consisting mainly of Kurdish fighters and leading the combat wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces. Türkiye considers the YPG an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is internationally recognized as a terrorist organisation by many countries.

The terrorist joined the PKK in 2009 and continued his armed activities in the Turkish region of Shemzinan, near the city of Hakkari, at the Iranian border. He had been injured during military confrontations with armed forces during this time.

The PKK member moved to Iraq before ending up in Syria, near Aleppo in 2016. He was directly involved in attacks against Turkish forces which were at that time carrying out the operations “Olive branch” and “Peace Spring”.

Daglarer was responsible for the tunnelling and emplacing in the north-Syrian city of Kobani in 2020, where he was commanding the Chavresh brigade.

According to sources inside the intelligence services, TRT Haber reports that the elimination of the commander of one of the largest terrorist brigades in Syria has seriously damaged the organizational structure in Syria.
