Turkish VP hopes Azerbaijani parliament elections boost regional stability
Vice President of Türkiye, Cevdet Yilmaz, extended his congratulations to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the successful outcome of the September 1 parliamentary elections to the Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan.
The elections marked a significant milestone, as they were the first to be held across the entire sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, including in the Karabakh region, following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Yilmaz shared his congratulatory message on social media, expressing his best wishes to the Azerbaijani leader and his party. “I sincerely congratulate Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the New Azerbaijan Party for their victory in the elections to the seventh convocation of the Milli Majlis,” he stated. “It is also gratifying that, for the first time in 30 years, parliamentary elections were held across the entire sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, including in Karabakh.”
He also expressed hope that the recent elections would foster peace and stability in the region. “I hope that yesterday's elections to the Milli Majlis will contribute to peace and stability in the region and serve the well-being of the people of Azerbaijan and the entire Turkic world,” Yilmaz added.
The September 1 elections were a landmark event for Azerbaijan, being the first nationwide parliamentary elections since the country regained control over territories previously occupied by Armenia for nearly three decades. Voting took place across 6,478 polling stations in 125 electoral districts, reflecting a comprehensive electoral process in the newly reintegrated regions.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the New Azerbaijan Party secured a decisive victory, reflecting widespread support across the country. The successful conduct of the elections across all regions, including areas recently reintegrated, was seen as a significant step towards national unity and strengthening the democratic process in Azerbaijan.
