Türkiye closely following developments in Syria-President Erdogan
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Türkiye is closely monitoring the recent developments in Syria and taking the necessary actions amid a resurgence of fighting between the Bashar al-Assad regime and armed opposition groups in the country.
At a joint press conference with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic in Ankara, Erdogan said, "We are closely following the developments that erupted suddenly in our neighbor Syria over the past few days," Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media
He added that Türkiye is carefully tracking the situation in Syria in accordance with its national security priorities and is taking all required measures to prevent any adverse actions.
"It is our greatest wish that the territorial integrity of Syria is preserved and that instability ends through a consensus that reflects the legitimate demands of the Syrian people," Erdogan noted.
The Turkish president emphasized that his country remains prepared to "do whatever we must to extinguish the fire" in the region.
The fighting between Assad's forces and anti-regime armed groups reignited on November 27 in the western countryside of Aleppo, in northern Syria, marking a resurgence of hostilities after a period of relative calm in the ongoing civil war, which began in 2011.
