World Azerbaijanis celebrate Solidarity Day
Today, December 31, marks the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis.
This holiday plays an important role in strengthening ties between Azerbaijanis worldwide, strengthening their unity and solidarity, Caliber.Az reports.
Our compatriots celebrate the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis in more than 80 countries. This holiday is also celebrated by representatives of the Diaspora who are not Azerbaijanis but were born and raised in Azerbaijan.
The foundations of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis were laid at the end of December 1989 during the destruction of the borders (borders of the USSR) in Nakhchivan. The border posts between Northern and Southern Azerbaijan were destroyed. At that time, a Conference of Turkic-speaking peoples was held in Istanbul. It also decided to hold a Day of solidarity of Azerbaijanis around the world.
On December 16, 1991, Heydar Aliyev, who at that time held the post of Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, considering the importance of the unity of Azerbaijanis all over the world, declared December 31 as the Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis of the World.
Thus, on December 31, a holiday dear to all Azerbaijanis is celebrated - Solidarity Day. This day is a pride for Azerbaijanis all over the world.
