Azerbaijani envoy informs UN General Secretary on servicemen in Armenian captivity
UN Secretary General António Guterres has been informed that Armenia, contrary to international law, is holding captive the soldiers of the Azerbaijani army Agshin Babirov and Huseyin Akhundov.
According to Report, the permanent representative of Azerbaijan at the UN, Yashar Aliyev, in his letter to Guterres, also raised the issue of captive soldiers.
The diplomat noted that the brutal beating of both servicemen in handcuffs was captured on the footage distributed by the Armenian mass media.
"According to the relevant international obligations, Armenia must immediately release our soldiers, properly investigate and punish those who are responsible for the inhumane and degrading treatment of them", the Azerbaijani representative stressed.
To recap, the servicemen of the Azerbaijani army - Babirov Agshin Gabil oglu (born in 2004) and Akhundov Huseyn Ahliman oglu (born in 2003) - went missing on April 9 in the Shahbuz region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on the border with Armenia due to adverse weather conditions.
In the same vein, a regular letter from the Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, Yashar Aliyev, to the General Secretary of the Organization, Antonio Guterres, was distributed as a document of the UN General Assembly and Security Council.
According to the Report, the letter is a response to the groundless accusations against Azerbaijan contained in the letter of the permanent representative of Armenia to the UN Secretary General.
In the letter, the ambassador presented in detail collected data on the recruitment of children to military service in Armenia, which is a gross violation of international law and human rights.
