Hungary urges PACE to restore Azerbaijani delegation's mandate

26 February 2024 21:08

Head of the Hungarian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Zsolt Németh has sent a letter to PACE President Theodoros Rousopoulos regarding the resolution No. 2527 (2004) adopted during the winter session on challenging the powers of the Azerbaijani delegation.

The letter says that the adoption of this decision undermines the practice of constructive interdepartmental dialogue and consultations on issues of common interest. In this context, we believe that the issue of the participation of the Azerbaijani delegation in the organization should be resolved as a matter of urgency, Azerbaijan’s Parliament said, Report informs.

Head of the Hungarian delegation Németh called on the PACE President together with political groups to take decisive steps and allow the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation to urgently resume its activity in PACE, preferably already at the April session of the organization. Németh expressed confidence that this would allow Azerbaijan not only to create conditions for inviting the Council of Europe rapporteurs to the country and organizing their visit, but also to invite the Parliamentary Assembly to observe the upcoming regular parliamentary elections in the country.
