ADY official: Around 1,000 tons of Kazakh grain en route to Armenia through Azerbaijan

06 November 2025 12:04

Azerbaijan has commenced the facilitation of Kazakh grain transit to Armenia, signifying a further advancement in the region’s evolving landscape of transportation and trade interconnectivity. Approximately 1,000 tons of grain from Kazakhstan are being shipped to Armenia via Azerbaijan in the latest freight train movement.

The development was confirmed by Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, Head of the Public Relations Department at CJSC Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Hajiyev stated that cargo deliveries to Armenia are now proceeding through Azerbaijani territory following the removal of previous transit restrictions.

“As President Ilham Aliyev announced during his state visit to Kazakhstan on October 21, Azerbaijan has lifted all restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia that had been in place since the period of occupation. Cargo is now being sent to Armenia through Azerbaijan,” Hajiyev noted.

He added that on the previous day, a shipment of 15 wagons carrying 1,048.8 tons of grain was dispatched from Russia to Armenia in transit through Azerbaijan’s Boyuk-Kasik station. The cargo is being routed through Georgia before reaching Armenia.

“In addition, the transportation of Kazakh grain to Armenia via Azerbaijan has now begun,” Hajiyev continued. “On November 5, some 15 wagons carrying about 1,000 tons of grain from Kazakhstan arrived in Azerbaijan. The train is currently at the Bilajari station and will proceed along the Bilajari–Hajigabul–Boyuk-Kasik route before departing from Boyuk-Kasik. Further shipments from Russia and Kazakhstan are expected to follow through Azerbaijani territory.”

To note, the freight train comprising 15 wagons of Kazakh grain bound for Armenia departed from the Bilajari railway station, underscoring Azerbaijan’s emerging role as a regional transit corridor connecting key trade partners in the South Caucasus.
