Armenia is actively preparing for war with Azerbaijan New facts

09 February 2025 09:25

Armenia continues its active preparations for another war with Azerbaijan. New data obtained by the editorial team of Caliber.Az confirms that Yerevan is consistently and deliberately strengthening its military potential with active support from external forces.

Let’s get straight to the facts. Caliber.Az has learned that France completed the production of the first 10 out of 26 planned Bastion armoured personnel carriers, with their delivery to Armenia expected soon. Simultaneously, the French company KNDS has already supplied Armenia with 12 CAESAR 155mm self-propelled artillery systems, with an additional 24 units set to arrive in Yerevan by the end of the year.

Moreover, the Armenian side is actively negotiating the purchase of ammunition not only from France but also from India.

Additionally, hundreds of vehicles have been delivered to Armenia through the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi, including:

  • 366 Tata Xenon Double Cab 4x4 pickups;

  • 208 Tata 715 4x4 trucks.

These vehicles were brought into Armenia through the "Sadakhlo" checkpoint.

Beyond ground equipment, particular attention is drawn to Armenia’s negotiations for the procurement of Indian BrahMos and ASTRA missile systems, which pose a significant threat to regional stability. It is worth noting that the export of BrahMos to third countries requires Russia’s approval, as Moscow holds a 49.5% stake in BrahMos Aerospace. In fact, the missile itself was named after two rivers—the Indian Brahmaputra and the Russian Moscow River. Moreover, Russia has veto power over the export of BrahMos missiles to other states.

Alongside that, Iran is providing its airspace for the systematic transportation of military cargo from India to Armenia, while also seeking to finalize a large-scale military-technical cooperation agreement with Yerevan.

It is also worth paying attention to Armenia's growing cooperation with Spain and Poland in the field of armaments. Madrid is seen as a promising supplier of artillery systems, while an agreement between the defence ministries of Armenia and Poland is already in the final stages of discussion. In this context, the visit of the Polish President to Armenia in November 2024 is very indicative, during which he, among other things, took part in "joint patrolling of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border" with observers of the EU spy mission. This demarche demonstrates Warsaw's desire to penetrate the South Caucasus by any means necessary.

Thus, all the aforementioned facts indicate that, despite public statements by Armenia's leadership about a desire for peace, the actual steps being taken point to a contrary trajectory. The increase in military potential, the signing of new arms procurement contracts, and the involvement of more countries in this process create direct conditions not only for escalating tension in the region but also for a new war with Azerbaijan, as Caliber.Az has previously highlighted.

In this context, we consider it necessary to recall the unambiguous warning of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in January of this year, addressed to the military-political leadership of Armenia. The president stated: "Arming Armenia will simply lead to new tensions. We do not want this. We want peace. We want the war page to be closed. However, we see that both Armenia itself and its new patrons do not want this. They live with ideas of revenge, and Armenia is actually a source of threat to the region. We cannot just watch this as observers. Armenia must immediately stop arming. France and other countries that provide it with weapons must terminate and cancel these contracts. The weapons that have already been sent to Armenia must be returned. This is our condition. Let them take it as they please. I give my word, they know it, and those behind them know that if we say something, then we are already taking this issue very seriously."

Thus, Azerbaijan has clearly articulated its position: the continued militarization of Armenia is unacceptable. Azerbaijan will not allow itself to be caught off guard by the threat of a new military adventure coming from Armenia. After all, preventive measures aimed at ensuring national security in international relations have not been dismissed by anyone. And this is our legitimate right.
