Azerbaijan continues intensive construction of Horadiz-Agband railway line
Azerbaijan is continuing the intensive construction of the Horadiz-Agband railway line, which runs through the Fuzuli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan districts.
The press service of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC informed Caliber.Az that construction is progressing swiftly by laying assembled blocks of sleepers and rails on the pre-prepared earth embankment.
Due to this rapid pace, 56% of the work has been completed.
The Horadiz-Agband railway line, with its foundation laid by President Ilham Aliyev on February 14, 2021, is 104.7 kilometers long. The line will feature nine stations: Horadiz, Marjanli, Mahmudlu, Khakari, Soltanli, Gumlag, Minjivan, Bartaz, and Agband. In total, over 500 engineering structures will be built, including three tunnels, 41 bridges (one of them 771 meters long), and seven overpasses.
The project aims to establish direct transport communication with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Turkey. This railway will be significant for both passenger movement and goods transport to the liberated lands.
The previously existing single-track Horadiz-Agband railway line, used by Baku-Yerevan and Baku-Nakhchivan trains before the First Karabakh War, was destroyed in 1993 after the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenian armed forces. For 27 years, the final stop of trains was Horadiz station in the Fuzuli district. The new line will extend from Horadiz to Agband village in the Zangilan district.
Agband village is located at the foot of the mountain of the same name on the left bank of the Araz River, 22 kilometers southwest of Zangilan city. The Horadiz-Agband railway will greatly contribute to the economic development of the liberated territories.
