Azerbaijan re-elected to UNESCO committee on cultural diversity
Azerbaijan has once again secured its position as a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions for the 2025–2029 term.
The election took place on June 20 at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, during the 10th Conference of the Parties to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan.
The Committee, composed of 24 member states serving four-year terms, acts as the principal executive body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Convention.
Azerbaijan has previously held membership on the Committee from 2019 to 2023, underscoring its sustained commitment to the goals of UNESCO in this vital area.
Among its core responsibilities, the Committee promotes the objectives of the Convention, monitors its practical application, analyses reports submitted by member states, formulates operational guidelines, and provides considered recommendations on emerging issues.
This continued mandate offers Azerbaijan a valuable platform to contribute to global efforts aimed at safeguarding cultural heritage and promoting intercultural dialogue.
It also highlights the country’s proactive engagement within the international community in addressing contemporary cultural challenges.
The ministry emphasises that this achievement reaffirms the country’s strategic priorities in cultural diplomacy and its role as a responsible actor in upholding the principles enshrined in the 2005 Convention.
