Azerbaijan reports sharp decrease in oil flow via BTC pipeline
Oil transportation through the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline declined in the first four months of 2026, Azerbaijan’s State Statistical Committee said.
Between January and April, the pipeline transported 8.39 million tons of crude oil, marking a 9.9% decrease compared to the same period last year, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Despite the decline, the BTC pipeline continued to account for the majority of the country’s oil transportation, representing 77% of total volumes shipped during the reporting period.
Of the total oil transported, 6.91 million tons, or 82.4%, consisted of Azerbaijani crude, while 1.48 million tons, or 17.6%, was transit oil originating from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
The volume of Azerbaijani oil transported via the pipeline fell by 10.6% year-on-year, while transit shipments decreased by 6.8%.
The BTC pipeline primarily carries oil produced from the Azeri–Chirag–Gunashli (ACG) block of fields and condensate from the Shah Daniz gas field, in addition to transit oil supplied by Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
