Azerbaijan’s education minister announces new school openings in Karabakh
Azerbaijan's Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, has announced a series of new school openings in the Karabakh region, marking an important step in the country's educational recovery following the restoration of its sovereignty.
At the inauguration of secondary school No. 1 in Shusha, Amrullayev highlighted that this academic year is the first since Azerbaijan's complete reclamation of the area, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“This year is pivotal as it marks the beginning of the academic year after the full restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty,” the minister stated.
He further revealed plans to open a new school in Khankandi soon, along with additional schools in Jabrayil and Kalbajar, as well as in several villages throughout the region.
The Minister also visited a newly constructed 132-seat school in Khojaly. Currently, 34 students are enrolled who are served by 16 teachers.
During the 30 years of occupation, Azerbaijan's educational infrastructure suffered severe damage, with over a thousand educational facilities, including kindergartens, being destroyed. The 44-day conflict in 2020 exacerbated the situation, leaving 54 schools either damaged or completely destroyed.
