Azerbaijan, US transport chiefs cooperation in opening Zangezur Corridor
As part of his official visit to the US, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Nabiyev, has met with US Department of Transportation representative Daniel Edwards and discussed cooperation in opening the Zangezur Corridor.
"We exchanged views on cooperation with the United States in opening the Zangezur corridor, accelerating the TRIPP project, and restoring and modernising the Nakhchivan railway," Nabiyev wrote on his Facebook page, Caliber.Az reports.
The meeting heard Nabiyev informing Edwards, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs, of the country's strategic significance as a regional transport and logistics hub, as well as of multimodal corridors and ongoing infrastructure projects.
In addition, the officials exchanged views on collaboration in other transport sectors, including aviation and maritime transport, as well as in the framework of international organisations.
The TRIPP project, formally known as the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, is a US-brokered infrastructure initiative in the South Caucasus aimed at establishing a strategic transport corridor through Armenian territory. It connects mainland Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave with a 43 km stretch across Armenia's Syunik province (Zangezur-ed.), while facilitating broader East-West trade routes from Türkiye to the Caspian Sea and Central Asia. The project is a major step towards normalisation of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations following the Karabakh conflict.
