Azerbaijani religious confessions appeal to US Department of State
The leaders of the Azerbaijani religious confessions have appealed to the US Department of State.
In their appeal, the leaders of religious confessions condemn the US Department of State’s decision to include Azerbaijan on the “Special Watch List” due to the freedom of religion, emphasising that this is a subjective and biased approach, Caliber.Az reports.
“We are waiting for the international community’s humanitarian and moral support for Azerbaijan’s ongoing restoration work in Karabakh and East Zangezur liberated from occupation, for the process of returning internally displaced people to the homeland of their ancestors, but we are faced with such biased reports based on revanchist Armenian circles’ false and slanderous statements,” the statement said.
“We state that there are no problems in Azerbaijan’s religious and spiritual life, in the relations between the state and religion. Contrary to the allegations indicated in the report, Azerbaijan is a secular country that respects democratic and national-spiritual values. Azerbaijan creates all conditions for the normal activity of religious communities,” the statement said.
The document was signed by Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, head of the Mountain Jewish Community in Azerbaijan Milikh Yevdayev, Secretary of the Baku and Azerbaijan Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, Archimandrite Alexey, Chairman of the European Jewish Religious Community in Baku Alexander Sharovsky and Chairman of the Albanian-Udi Christian Religious Community in Azerbaijan Robert Mobili.
