Azerbaijani, Turkish commando units gear up for joint tactical drills VIDEO

On the eve of "Mustafa Kemal Ataturk - 2023" joint tactical exercises, the commando units of the Azerbaijan Army and the Turkish Armed Forces have fulfilled special tasks.

According to the plan, the commandos penetrated into the depth of the operational area and successfully accomplished the tasks on identifying, encircling, and neutralizing the temporary shelters of the sabotage group of the imaginary enemy stationed in the residential areas, the press service of the Defence Ministry of Azerbaijan informs.

The joint tactical exercises dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye are about to be held on October 23-25 in various parts of Azerbaijan, including Baku city, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and the liberated territories.

During and after the 44-day war with Armenia in 2020, President Ilham Aliyev revealed Azerbaijan’s intention to strengthen the national army based on the Turkish model but on a smaller scale. Following the war, as part of the army’s upgrade in line with the Turkish military expertise, all-new Commando units were created in areas with difficult terrain.

In 2021, 2022, and 2023, President Aliyev inaugurated new units of Commando forces, the personnel of which has been through weeks-long “Commando preparation” courses in Türkiye under the direct involvement and guidance of Turkish military specialists.

Defense Minister of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov said the post-war army-building process targeted mainly upgrading the organizational and staff structure, as well as the weapons arsenal of the national army.
