Participants of the Baku-hosted International Forum of Ombudsmen have kicked off their visit to the territories of Karabakh liberated from occupation.
The initiative, themed “Climate Change and Human Rights: The Role of Ombudspersons and National Human Rights Institutions” was organized by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The delegation, which includes Azerbaijan's Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva, alongside ombudsmen, heads of national human rights institutions, and human rights experts from countries including Türkiye, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Kenya, Northern Macedonia, Morocco, and Moldova, is currently on a visit to Aghdam.
The visit aims to raise awareness about the various crimes committed during the conflict, including genocide, urbanicide, ecocide, and culturicide attributed to Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan. Participants will conduct observations in the liberated territories, particularly in Aghdam, to document and report these issues to the global community.
The International Forum of Ombudsmen, held on October 2, attracted over 60 guests from nearly 30 countries, totaling more than 200 participants.
In conclusion, the forum adopted a Declaration to enhance the role of ombudsmen and national human rights institutions in addressing environmental challenges and promoting awareness in this critical area.
