Baku, Riyadh review regional energy projects, cooperation development
Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Pedro Miras, President of the World Oil Council (WPC Energy), to discuss global energy issues, regional projects, and the development of Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the organisation.
Shahbazov highlighted Azerbaijan’s ongoing progress in energy transition, noting that while the country remains a traditional oil and gas producer and exporter, it has undertaken significant reforms in recent years, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.
He said Azerbaijan aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its installed capacity to 30% by 2030, with an interim target of 33.7% by 2027, reflecting the country’s commitment to diversifying its energy mix.
The discussion also covered regional and international energy projects, including initiatives connecting Central Asia, Türkiye, and Europe. Shahbazov noted that these projects enhance cross-border energy system integration, strengthen regional energy security, and support the development of energy and digital infrastructure, including data centres.
Miras underscored Azerbaijan’s strategic role as an energy corridor between Asia and Europe and praised the country as a model for facilitating dialogue across different energy perspectives.
The two officials also exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s participation in the WPC Energy Congress, scheduled for 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and discussed future cooperation prospects with the organisation.
