Belarus eyes role in reconstruction of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories
Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Natalia Petkevich has said that relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus are developing dynamically in all areas, thanks to the successful policies pursued by the presidents of both countries.
“As a result of the successful policy of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Belarus, today the relations between our states are developing on an ascendant line in all spheres,” Petkevich said at the 15th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Belarus, held in Baku.
She noted that the intergovernmental commission, which has been operating since 2004, has played a significant role in strengthening bilateral ties across economic, trade, transport, cultural, and sports sectors.
“Over the past period, successful results have been achieved in the activities of the commission. Today, discussions will be held related to the implementation of the Roadmap for Cooperation covering 2024–2025,” she said.
According to Petkevich, there are already “concrete results and progress” in such spheres as industry, agriculture, engineering, urban economy, pharmaceuticals, vocational education, transportation and logistics, trade, and investment.
She pointed out that cooperation between the two countries continues successfully in industrial projects, noting in particular the joint assembly of agricultural and special-purpose machinery at the Ganja Automobile Plant with the participation of Belarusian partners.
“At the same time, within the framework of long-term cooperation in the field of production and supply of elevators, works on the expansion of local production in Azerbaijan together with Mogilevliftmash continue, and 200 elevators will be modernised and installed in 2025,” the Belarusian deputy prime minister said.
Petkevich also emphasised that Belarusian construction companies are keen to take part in major reconstruction and development projects in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.
“Construction companies of Belarus are interested in participating in large-scale construction works in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation. The opening of joint ventures for the production of construction materials in these territories can give a powerful impetus to the development of our cooperation,” she stressed.
