Belgium’s far right rebrands with new party "TRUMP" ahead of 2029 EU elections
A new right-wing political party called TRUMP, named after US President Donald Trump, has been officially established in Belgium.
The newly formed francophone party, whose name is derived from the acronym “Tous Réunis pour l’Union des Mouvements Populistes” (translated as All United for the Union of Populist Movements), was launched by Salvatore Nicotra, a former chairman of Belgium’s far-right National Front (NF), according to the Brussels-based outlet BRUZZ.
“Donald Trump is the ultimate symbol of populism. He immediately embodies what we stand for,” Nicotra said, explaining the inspiration behind the party’s name.
The TRUMP movement positions itself as the successor to previous far-right Wallonian parties Chez Nous and the Belgian National Front. Unlike Vlaams Belang, the powerful Flemish nationalist party in Belgium’s north, TRUMP does not support separatism, Nicotra emphasised. Instead, it intends to participate in elections at both the federal level and in the 2029 European Parliament elections.
“We are a right-wing populist party with a social slant,” Nicotra stated, adding that he has not ruled out running in Brussels or in municipal elections in the future.
Nicotra previously served as a municipal councillor in Brussels’ Saint-Gilles district between 1994 and 2000. Among the party’s other founding members are several former NF figures, including Emanuele Licari, who was expelled from Vlaams Belang after the party accused him of publicly glorifying fascism.
The party’s official launch event is scheduled to take place on November 30.
