“We took part in the second meeting of the High-Level Dialogue on Transport between Azerbaijan and the EU in Brussels. During the meeting, we discussed the future prospects of the Zangezur Corridor and the potential support of the EU in developing transportation infrastructure in Nakhchivan,” Nabiyev wrote.
He highlighted that the parties exchanged views on cooperation in aviation, maritime, and road transport, as well as on current opportunities and new initiatives aimed at expanding transport ties.
The Zangezur Corridor is a strategic transport route connecting mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave, passing through southern Armenia’s Syunik region. Proposed after the Second Karabakh War, the corridor is designed to provide direct and unhindered access between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.
In August 2025, a trilateral agreement between the United States, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in Washington set the framework for opening the corridor, with the goal of facilitating transport, trade, and regional connectivity. The corridor is expected to strengthen Azerbaijan’s links with Nakhchivan, improve trade routes between Europe and Asia, and support major initiatives such as the North-South and Middle Corridors. It is also anticipated to bring economic benefits to Armenia through transit fees and infrastructure development.
The project has received international support, including endorsement from the Organisation of Turkic States, highlighting its potential to advance regional integration.
