Electricity generation at Akkuyu nuclear power plant to start in 2024
Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez has said that electricity generation at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant will start by late April 2024.
“The first nuclear fuel will be delivered to the nuclear power plant on April 27, after which tests will be carried out,” Donmez said in an interview with CNN Turk, according to Social Bites.
“There are certain conditions before starting direct electricity generation. I can say that in 9-12 months, that is, in about a year, the station will start generating electricity.”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the establishment of a gas hub in Türkiye with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, and cooperation between the two countries at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant on April 7.
Akkuyu nuclear power plant is a nuclear power plant under construction in the province of Gulnar (province Mersin) on Türkiye’s Mediterranean coast within the scope of the Russian project and will have four power units with VVER-1200 reactors.
