Expert: Zangezur Corridor seen as major opportunity to cut transport time, costs
The Zangezur Corridor presents a significant opportunity for countries in Central Asia and the South Caucasus to unlock their transit potential, according to Nargiza Umarova, a specialist at Uzbekistan’s Institute for Advanced International Studies.
Umarova told reporters that the corridor will ease pressure on existing transport routes, particularly the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway and the ports of the Caspian and Black Seas, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“The new route will allow freight flows to be redistributed, enabling countries along the Middle Corridor to attract substantial volumes of transit,” she said.
She added that the corridor shortens transport routes by more than 300 kilometres. “For logistics professionals, this is not just a figure. It is a huge opportunity to reduce both the time and cost of freight transport,” she noted.
The Zangezur Corridor is expected to become a key artery for regional trade, enhancing connectivity between Europe and Asia while diversifying transport options across the South Caucasus.
