Georgia, Armenia to accelerate delimitation of state border – Pashinyan

26 January 2024 20:49

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has said that the Georgian and Armenian authorities agreed to speed up the process of delimitation of the state border.

"During the talks with Prime Minister Garibashvili, we decided to task the agencies to take effective steps to finalize the delimitation of the Georgian-Armenian border," Pashinyan told a briefing following talks with his Georgian counterpart Irakli Garibashvili, TASS reports.

The total length of Georgia's land border is 1,839 kilometers, 224 kilometers of which is bordering with Armenia. Georgia and Armenia have been delimiting the border since the collapse of the USSR.

Meanwhile, Pashinyan noted that the Georgian and Armenian authorities are considering the possibility of introducing a model of unified customs control at the border.

"The possibility of introducing a model of unified control at border checkpoints is being actively considered between the customs departments of both countries. In such a case, the time required for customs procedures will be significantly reduced," Pashinyan said.

Currently, three customs checkpoints, Sadakhlo - Bagratashen, Guguti - Gogavan and Ninotsminda - Bavra, for cars and pedestrians operate between Georgia and Armenia.
