Georgian politician: People to vote for ruling party in parliamentary elections
The Georgian people will vote for the ruling party in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Deputy Speaker of the Georgian parliament, one of the leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party Gia Volski said that of course, most of people will choose the ruling party, which stands for peace and stability, in the upcoming parliamentary elections, Caliber.Az reports citing the Georgian media.
The upcoming parliamentary elections must be held in Georgia in October 2024, which will be the first and unique ones in terms of the voting system and the electoral system. The party will be able to enter parliament only if it receives at least five per cent of the votes. Today, Georgian Dream is the leader of the election race in all public opinion polls.
“When the war party and the strategy, which envisages cooperation, stability and the development of peace processes, oppose each other, of course, society chooses the latter. Of course, most of people will choose the Georgian Dream,” Volski said.
Georgian Dream leaders said that the biggest opposition party, the United National Movement, and its associates are a “local war party” and a “radical opposition”. They say that the global war party is powerful politicians abroad who are trying to drag Georgia into the war and open a “second front” against Russia.
The parliamentary elections in 2024 will be the first elections to be held according to the proportional system. The parties that receive at least five per cent of the votes will enter parliament.
According to the polls as of 2023, 2-5 parties have a chance of overcoming the barrier. The ruling party retains leadership, while the United National Movement ranks second.
Meanwhile, the politicians are holding the negotiations on the creation of new political forces and coalitions.
A political force founded by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili has been in power since 2012. At first, it was the Georgian Dream coalition, while since 2016, when the coalition collapsed, one party - Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia won the elections.
