Qatar seeks media alliance with Azerbaijan to combat digital Islamophobia
Director of the Qatar Media Centre, Iman Al-Kaabi, has expressed keenness to establish cooperative ties with Azerbaijani media outlets, highlighting the importance of joint initiatives in combating Islamophobia and promoting intercultural understanding.
Speaking to local media on the sidelines of the international conference titled “Islamophobia in Focus: Unveiling Bias, Shattering Stigmas,” held in Baku, Al-Kaabi emphasized Qatar’s readiness to engage in collaborative media projects aimed at amplifying the key messages of the event, Caliber.Az reports.
“As the head of the Qatar Media Centre under the Ministry of Culture of the State of Qatar, I fully support the idea of working on joint media initiatives,” she said.
“We would be pleased to cooperate with Azerbaijani media, especially in efforts to promote the important themes and values highlighted by this conference.”
Al-Kaabi underscored the significance of hosting such a forum in Baku, noting the urgency of addressing the harmful narratives proliferating in digital spaces. She cautioned that rapid advances in digital technology—particularly in artificial intelligence—have facilitated the widespread dissemination of Islamophobic content.
“Today, digital platforms are saturated with rhetoric that distorts the image of Islam and portrays Muslims through an unfounded and prejudiced lens,” she stated. “In truth, Islam is a religion rooted in tolerance, compassion, mutual respect, and mercy among peoples.”
The director called for greater international solidarity in the fight against hate speech and religious discrimination, emphasizing the need for a unified global response to counter negative stereotypes and promote an authentic understanding of Islam.
“We sincerely thank Baku for its warm hospitality and for hosting this vital conference, which serves to unify efforts and present Islam in its true, noble, and inclusive form,” Al-Kaabi concluded.
