Riga art exhibition by Azerbaijani silk painter closes after successful run PHOTO
An exhibition by Azerbaijani painter Inna Kostina which opened on October 27 at the Riga Art Museum has come to an end on December 5.
According to Report, the exhibition titled "The Silk Wings of Absheron" attracted great interest among Rigans and guests of the capital according to the Museum Director, Agrita Tipane.
"The beautiful landscapes of Baku painted by Azerbaijani artists bring visitors to the eastern atmosphere, which is very interesting and unusual", she said.
In her view, one of the most memorable works by Kostina were the painted silk cloths portraying the mythical Simurg, the sacred bird of the Zoroastrianism culture which is the keeper of sacred knowledge and the instrument of destiny.
Inna Kostina is an award-winning painter, laureate of the title of "People' Artist of Azerbaijan" and winner of many local and international competitions. She has participated in more than 250 different exhibitions and is considered a specialist in silk painting using the "batik" technique.
The exhibition in Riga also featured famous Azerbaijani "Kelagayi" silk headscarves, which are included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
"In the early 20th century, after the repressions in Latvia [by Nazi Germany] many Latvian intellectuals found their new home in Baku. Perhaps we could talk about the representatives of the Latvian community of that time in our next joint project", the director said when thanking the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Latvia, Elnur Sultanov, for his help in organizing the exhibition.
