Slovenia secures winter gas supply through deal with Azerbaijan
Slovenia has secured its natural gas supply for the coming winter through a new agreement with Azerbaijan's State Oil Company (SOCAR), said Bojan Kumer, Minister of the Environment, Climate and Energy.
The deal, announced in Ljubljana, highlights Azerbaijan's role as a key partner in diversifying Slovenia’s gas supply routes, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Kumer praised the agreement, noting that it not only ensures a stable gas supply for Slovenia but also marks the beginning of a promising long-term partnership between Slovenia and Azerbaijan.
"This and future agreements will foster successful cooperation between our two countries and companies," Kumer noted.
The minister emphasized that Slovenia's strategy to diversify its natural gas sources has been crucial in securing energy for the upcoming winter. Kumer also mentioned that Azerbaijan's growing significance as a strategic gas supplier to the EU presents additional opportunities for Slovenia.
During his visit to Baku on July 17, 2024, Kumer and Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov discussed expanding cooperation beyond natural gas. The two countries outlined potential collaborations in hydrogen, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy sources.
