Some 46 of 282 victims of mine explosions die since 2020 in Azerbaijan

Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of the Azerbaijan Republic (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov has said that 282 people have suffered as a result of the mine explosion, 46 of them have died and 236 have been wounded since November 2020.

“A 68,300 hectare-area has been cleared of mines, 82,522 mines have been revealed and defused since November 10, 2020,” he told reporters, a journalist of Report news agency sent to Aghdam said.

Deputy Special Representative of the Azerbaijani President in the liberated territories included in the Karabakh economic region (except for the Shusha district) Bashir Hajiyev said that 26.2 per cent of Aghdam, 22.7 per cent of Fuzuli, 3.5 per cent of Khojavand, 15.2 per cent of Khojaly, 15.1 per cent of Tartar have been cleared of mines.

Hajiyev noted that the foundation was laid for 11 facilities during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the Aghdam district in 2022.

“Kangarli, Sarijali, Khidirli villages [together with the buffer zone], the Hindarkh-Aghdam highway and other intracity projects are now the priority areas in terms of demining in the Aghdam district,” he added.
