Turkish police detains over 50 people part of smuggling ring for illegal migrants VIDEO
Turkish law officials have identified and captured over 50 individuals linked to a smuggling network for illegal migrants.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on December 27 that in the course of the raids, carried out under the codename "Kalkan-36", over 650 illegal migrants were also arrested, Caliber.Az reports.
"During the large-scale operation conducted nationwide, 52 migrant smuggling organizers were detained, 32 of whom were foreign nationals, along with 656 illegal migrants," the Turkish minister's press release stated.
According to the minister, police forces conducted identity checks on over 400,000 individuals during the operation and searched over 15,000 locations. A total of 26,456 law enforcement staff were involved in the massive operation.
