Turkish President advocates for enhanced economic cooperation with US Amid growing LNG supply
In an address at the Türkiye-US Business Council in New York, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the United States has emerged as Türkiye's largest supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and emphasized Ankara's intention to secure long-term contracts in this vital sector.
Erdogan pointed to existing trade restrictions from the US, urging their removal to foster stronger bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
He highlighted specific challenges such as additional customs duties and sanctions imposed under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), which have impeded cooperation in critical areas like the defence industry.
“Our defence industry collaboration has not reached its full potential due to these restrictions,” Erdogan remarked, expressing hope that the upcoming F-16 modernization project could pave the way for increased exports. He insisted that all barriers to defence collaboration must be permanently eliminated.
Furthermore, Erdogan encouraged American investors and manufacturers to engage with relevant institutions to facilitate trade with Türkiye and urged US authorities to assist Turkish companies in obtaining the necessary visas and permits to access the American market.
