Türkiye pays nearly $1 billion in compensation to earthquake victims

Insurance payments to the victims of February's devastating earthquakes in Türkiye totalled almost $1 billion (over 19 billion liras).

As of April 17, 469,000 appeals were received from local citizens concerning the damage, 54,600 of them are still to be considered, Haber Global TV channel reports quoting the National Disaster Insurance Institution of Türkiye.

The Turkish authorities earlier informed that the total losses from the natural disasters exceeded $100 billion.
