Türkiye unveils cyber spy network targeting personal data
Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization (MIT), in collaboration with the General Command of the Gendarmerie and the National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM), has dismantled a sophisticated cyber espionage network that stole and sold personal data to terrorist organizations.
The network's activities involved extensive theft of personal information from internet users both within Turkey and internationally, according to Turkish media sources reported by Caliber.Az.
This operation resulted in the compromise of thousands of individuals' data, which was then trafficked to various terrorist groups and other buyers around the world.
The coordinated crackdown led to the arrest of 11 individuals connected to the cybercrime network. Additionally, all online platforms used by the network to facilitate their illegal activities have been effectively shut down.
The network's operation involved not only collecting personal data but also engaging in complex strategies to ensure the illicit sale of this information. The stolen data was reportedly used to support the activities of terrorist organizations, posing a significant security threat.
