Türkiye welcomes OSCE decision to dissolve Minsk Group
Türkiye has welcomed the decision by the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to formally dissolve the Minsk Group and its affiliated structures, calling it a “historic milestone” in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“We welcome the decision taken by the OSCE Ministerial Council on 1 September 2025 to close down the Minsk Group and dissolve its affiliated structures. This historic decision, made possible by the joint efforts of the two countries, constituted one of the important milestones in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports.

The OSCE move, announced on September 1, marks a fundamental shift in the international approach to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.
The Minsk Group was established in 1992 with the stated aim of mediating a peaceful settlement, co-chaired by the United States, Russia, and France. For nearly three decades, however, it failed to produce tangible results while Armenia maintained its occupation of Azerbaijani territories in violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
Critics long viewed the Minsk Process as symbolic of international inaction and double standards, with repeated proposals ignoring Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Following Azerbaijan’s victory in the 2020 Second Karabakh War and the restoration of its sovereignty, the group lost practical relevance — a reality now formally acknowledged through its dissolution.
